Rules of Christian Modesty
Please consider these guidelines regarding the Rules of the Church on Christian modesty that Bishop Fellay has summarized for us:
“Under no circumstances is it ever permitted to wear indecent clothing. A dress, which does not cover a woman’s knees when she is seated, can in no way be called decent. Nor can a skirt that is split or transparent, revealing the legs above the knees, be called modest or decent. In the same way, no outfit - either for men or for women - which hugs the body and accentuates its shape, is decent.
As for low necklines and bare shoulders, here is what the Cardinal Vicar of Pope Pius XI had to say: “No dress which is cut lower that two fingers’ width below the base of the neck, or which does not cover the arms at least to the elbows, can be called decent.”
These are the general rules of dress. When in church, one must be even more careful to dress in a manner befitting the holiness of the House of God.”
